Alessia Cara and Zedd release their new collaboration “Stay”

Interscope RecordsAlessia Cara and Zedd are meeting in the middle of their musical sensibilities. Alessia, who sings R&B-tinged pop, and Zedd, who creates electronic music, have joined forces for a new collaboration, called “Stay.”

The two have released the song along with a lyric video featuring sprawling desert landscapes and mirror reflections. The song was first teased during Alessia’s appearance on Saturday Night Live several weeks ago.

“I think this song is right in the middle between where Alessia is musically and where I am and that’s what’s so exciting about it,” Zedd says in a statement. “I’ve been trying to knock down barriers around music genres and this is another step for me to walk towards a musical future where I can create any genre I want without people putting me in a box.”

Alessia adds, “It still feels like me, just an elevated pop sound. I don’t know that I would be this bold on my own stuff so it’s cool to try these things with collaborators.”

The two first met at the 2016 HALO Awards and made plans to work together shortly after. Zedd has a good record when it comes to doing songs with young female vocalists: he’s had hits working with Foxes, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Hayley Williams from Paramore.

Meanwhile, Zedd’s ACLU benefit concert, featuring Bebe Rexha, Camila Cabello, Daya, Halsey, Imagine Dragons, Machine Gun Kelly, Macklemore, Miguel and more, will take place April 3 in L.A.
